Vulgar Women: A Twerk Symphony is an evolving creative universe that reclaims the twerking body as an instrument of archive, ritual, and rebellion.
Rooted in dkfash’s choreographic practice at the intersection of movement, theatre, and womanist thought, this universe explores how the “vulgar” has been used to shame and police women’s bodies and how
those same gestures can become portals to liberation, sensuality, and spiritual renewal.
Drawing on ancestral booty movements from across the African diaspora, classical and operatic forms, and the lived realities of modern womanhood, Vulgar Women treats the body as both archive and prophecy,
a living symphony of contradictions: sacred and profane, grotesque and divine, joy and horror.
Each iteration within the universe - whether stage work, installation, or film - contributes to an expanding mythology that asks:

'Twerk = Booty Dancing
When we say booty dancing we mean all things
hips, waist, booty and pelvis.
The various ways the booty and hip area is able to dance, isolate and move through melody and rhythms.
Widely known as “twerk” the movement is a part of 'booty dancing' evolution. Popularised through African American culture holding much significance within New Orleans Bounce and across hiphop genres
